Beth E. Roxland, J.D., M.Bioethics, is an Attorney and Bioethicist with unique experience across industry, law, government and academia. She is a Senior Legal and Policy Consultant to law firms, academic medical centers and research entities, and is also an Associate of the Division of Medical Ethics at NYU School of Medicine. She frequently lectures and publishes on a variety of cutting-edge regulatory and bioethical topics, and serves on several scientific and oversight boards at leading institutions. Ms. Roxland previously served as Johnson & Johnson’s Bioethics and Strategy Leader, in the Office of the Chief Medical Officer. In this industry-leading role, Ms. Roxland re-launched and chaired J&J’s Ethics Committee; led the first-of-its-kind major colloquium fostering public dialog between industry, academia, governmental entities & patient and professional non-profits; and created an enterprise-wide ethics consultation service for those confronting complex challenges during all stages of R&D. Prior to joining J&J, Ms. Roxland was the Executive Director of the New York State Task Force on Life and the Law, and concurrently served as the Special Advisor to the Commissioner of Health on Stem Cell Research Ethics. During her government tenure, she drove policy on issues ranging from Brain Death, to Pandemic Preparedness, to stem cell research involving embryos and human-animal chimeras.

Ms. Roxland was previously a Senior Litigation Associate at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett LLP, and a Federal Law Clerk in the Southern District of New York. She graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology, and received a joint J.D. – Master’s in Bioethics Magna Cum Laude from the University of Pennsylvania, where she served as a Senior Editor of the University of Pennsylvania’s Law Review.
