During the Pitch Perfect contest at MedCity ENGAGE, promising startups offering innovative approaches and tackling the biggest problems in patient engagement will pitch LIVE. Participating startups have been pre-selected by a panel of investors. Startups will have 4 minutes to present their strategy and business plans followed by 4 minutes of q&a with the judges.

Boundlss provides patients with their own ‘recovery buddy’: part AI part human, the recovery buddy acts a health coach. The coach aims to minimize preventable readmissions by helping patients prepare for procedures, guiding them through their recovery and supporting behavioral change, using chat in a mobile app.
CMIO and Assistant Medical Director, Kaiser Permanente
John Mattison, is the Chief Medical Information Officer and Assistant Medical Director for Kaiser Permanente. He focuses on transforming care delivery with information technology, through convergence of exponential technologies and data liquidity. He led the design and implementation of the largest integrated electronic health record in the US, and leads various national programs including virtual care. He has sponsored or led numerous digital innovations, and mentors many digital health startups. He chairs the eHealth Workgroup of the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health (GA4GH), and is a board member of Open mHealth, advisory board member of the NIH funded Policy and Ethics in Precision Medicine, teaches at multiple Universities including Singularity University, and has published widely on privacy, policy, security, IOT, global genomics collaboration, interoperability, mobile health, and healthcare transformation. He has published in Nature, JAMIA, JAMA, WSJ, Forbes, and has authored chapters for various books. He has keynoted or hosted many national and international healthcare conferences and has consulted in many countries. He is the founder of the international XML standard for health record interoperability known as CDA, CCD and CCDA, and is an active participant on several global initiatives to bring internet services to underserved communities providing access to both jobs and healthcare.
Managing Partner, Section 32 and Chairman, Foundation Medicine
Dr. Pellini is Managing Partner of Section 32, a venture fund that invests in companies and inventors that are changing the way humans use technology and the way technology betters humanity. Previously, he served as CEO of Foundation Medicine (NASDAQ:FMI) from May 2011 until he transitioned to Chairman in February 2017. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Tango Therapeutics, Singular Genomics, Adaptive Biotechnologies, the Personalized Medicine Coalition, and the Mission Hospital Foundation, in addition to his Board Chair position with Foundation Medicine. As a physician with more than 20 years of executive experience with companies at the forefront of clinical diagnostics and genomics, Dr. Pellini brings a breadth of understanding in personalized medicine, with a particular interest and focus on defeating cancer. Dr. Pellini is a member of the President’s Leadership Council at Thomas Jefferson University and Jefferson Health, as well as the Advisory Board for Mission Hospital’s Cancer Institute (Provident/St. Joseph Health). Dr. Pellini received a BA from Boston College, an MBA from Drexel University and an MD from Jefferson Medical College.

Glenn is a Managing Director with Healthbox, supporting the organization’s growth. He is a 30+ year veteran of the software industry and has been instrumental in the building of several successful enterprise software companies. He is now focused on improving the productivity and quality of healthcare by connecting early stage technology and service companies with health systems who are committed to identifying, adopting, and investing in innovative solutions. Prior to joining Healthbox, Glenn co-founded, seed funded, and served as CEO of Syapse. Under Glenn’s leadership, six of the top 15 non-profit health systems in the US made significant commitments in choosing Syapse to enable their precision medicine programs. Earlier in his career he spent many years bringing software solutions to market in highly regulated industries including healthcare. Glenn received a B.S. in Business Administration and Marketing from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and is a frequent guest lecturer, mentor, and advisor at both the University of Illinois and Stanford University. He is also a member of UCSF’s Med Center’s Technology Advisory Group.
