Medical Director, Mayo Clinic Center for Connected Care
Nicholas F. LaRusso, M.D., is Medical Director of the Mayo Clinic Center for Innovation (CFI) and a Distinguished Investigator of the Mayo Foundation. While Chair of the Department of Medicine, Dr. LaRusso developed the Program in Innovative Healthcare Delivery; its success inspired Mayo Clinic leadership to create the CFI in 2008 with the mission of ‘transforming the experience and delivery of health care’. The CFI includes the largest group of design researchers embedded within a clinical practice. The main platforms at CFI include Clinical Practice Redesign, Connected Care, Community Health Transformation, Future Works, and Healthy Aging. The methodology of the CFI is based on the disciplines of innovation and design thinking fused with the traditional scientific methods of observation, hypothesis generation, experimentation, prototyping and piloting, all focused on user needs.
